Senior Chemical Process Engineer


Department: Leaching
Reports to: Leaching Team
Coached by: VP – R&D
Education: Master’s degree in chemical engineering or materials science and engineering; Bachelor’s acceptable with demonstrated success in similar field
Experience: Minimum 10 years engineering experience


Summary

Improve process capability, safety, dependability, and robustness
• Promote understanding of current condition through modeling
• Optimize processes through modeling and teaching of modeling techniques
• Develop new processing techniques and equipment
• Implement and maintaining process control
• Maintain current process and equipment
• Lead and teach through all levels of cross functional team

Requirements:

Responsibilities

Maintain current process and equipment
• Develop and maintain process training documentation
• Maintain leaching parameter database
• Coordinate with metrology team to develop measurement systems of critical equipment and maintain them
Implement and maintain process control
• Promote understanding of current condition through modeling
• Develop process models
• Work cross functionally to design process control systems
• Promote safety awareness and lead culture
• Mentor implementation of poke-yokes
• Control chart key process parameters and performance metrics
Develop new processing techniques and equipment
• Work with cross functional teams to scale up new processes
• Work with internal and 3rd party resources to develop new processing equipment and technology
• Develop measurements systems for critical process steps
• Help design fixtures, tooling, and processing methods
Make Process Improvements
• Optimize process through modeling and teaching of modeling techniques
• Identify root cause of failures
• Devise and use process life models to improve OA
• Work with production floor on PDCA’s as an engineering resource
• Participate in safety risk assessment and minimize risk through problem solving
Provide Leadership
• Participate in cross-functional teams to solve problems
• Lead diverse cross-functional teams that include other engineers, production employees and student interns
• Coach other team members and student interns
• Yokoten: Share learning across the organization


Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Scientific problem solving skills
• Strong background in applied statistics e.g, ANOVA, DOE, Reliability
• Proficient with statistical analysis software, preferably JMP
• Scientific and process programming skills (C++, Matlab, LabView, etc)
• Strong background in mathematics and modeling physical systems
• Knowledge of electrochemistry
• Knowledge of acid chemistry
• Understand and analyze testing and metallurgical data

• Ability to speak in front of crowds

• Ability to work flexible shift hours when need arises
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, application and implementation

  o Full body suit
  o Full-face respirator
  o Water for drinking
  o Shower (in case of contamination)
  o PAPR (breathing apparatus)
  o Calcium Gluconate
  o Eyewash stations

Physical Demands

• Moderate noise
• Hazardous environment
• Uncomfortable temperatures in body suit for an hour at a time
  o Drink water frequently when in suit

Electron Microscopist


Department: Research and Development
Reports to: Metallurgical Lab Manager
Pay Scale: Range 12
Education: Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy/ Material Science or equivalent
Experience: 2 years of SEM experience


Summary

Run and maintain analytical equipment. Interface with customers to educate them and solve their problems. Share learned knowledge.


Requirements:


Responsibilities

• Interact with customers and engineers to understand the requests and gain feedbacks
• Analyze samples using SEM, Sonoscan, microscopes, etc.
• Find root causes or give an interpretation of the results
• Run and maintain analytical equipment
• Actively participate in continuous improvement processes
• Keep detailed notes for record keeping and training
• Attend technical conferences
• Must keep proprietary intellectual property confidential
• Work a flexible schedule, overtime and some Saturdays and holidays to accommodate customer needs
• May be required to travel
• May be required to make presentations both internally and externally


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
• Ability to multitask and prioritize activities
• Problem solver
• In depth understanding of analytical instruments, including:
  o SEM, EDS, EBSD
  o Metallurgical microscope
  o Raman Confocal microscope
  o Acoustic microscope
  o Hardness testers
  o Material analysis
  o Sample preparation
• Statistical analysis experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows
• Good written and oral communication skills

• May sit or stand for up to eight hours
• Full range of motion with hands and fingers necessary
