Senior Chemical Process Engineer


Department: Leaching
Reports to: Leaching Team
Coached by: VP – R&D
Education: Master’s degree in chemical engineering or materials science and engineering; Bachelor’s acceptable with demonstrated success in similar field
Experience: Minimum 10 years engineering experience


Summary

Improve process capability, safety, dependability, and robustness
• Promote understanding of current condition through modeling
• Optimize processes through modeling and teaching of modeling techniques

Requirements:

Responsibilities

Maintain current process and equipment
• Develop and maintain process training documentation
• Maintain leaching parameter database
• Coordinate with metrology team to develop measurement systems of critical equipment and maintain them
Implement and maintain process control
• Promote understanding of current condition through modeling
• Develop process models
• Work cross functionally to design process control systems
• Promote safety awareness and lead culture
• Mentor implementation of poke-yokes
• Control chart key process parameters and performance metrics
Develop new processing techniques and equipment

Make Process Improvements

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Scientific problem solving skills
• Strong background in applied statistics e.g, ANOVA, DOE, Reliability
• Proficient with statistical analysis software, preferably JMP
• Scientific and process programming skills (C++, Matlab, LabView, etc)
• Strong background in mathematics and modeling physical systems
• Knowledge of electrochemistry
• Knowledge of acid chemistry
• Understand and analyze testing and metallurgical data

Process Engineer


Department: Process Engineering
Reports to: Process Engineer Manager
Pay Scale: Range 12
Education: Bachelor degree in an engineering field
Experience: : Minimum three years mechanical engineering experience


Summary

Utilize data-driven methods of PDCA and Six Sigma (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) to problem-solve, Poka-Yoke and innovate. Specifically:
1. Process Capability (CPK): 1.33 in the first six months of employment, using Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA) to drive improvement
2. New Product Development (NPD): Work cross-functionally for new product development
3. Ten times the innovation: Improve assigned process by implementing one poka-yoke (mistake proofing) within the first month. Continue to implement poka-yokes as opportunities arise
Drive projects and produce world-class results in line with the Process Engineering strategy. Work with and be a resource to production areas and manage reactive needs of production to allow temporary countermeasures and long-term changes. Will be assigned a production process and will work with the process owner team to improve the process and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Responsible to produce on-target quality work per the Quality Policy of US Synthetic (see attached).


Requirements:


Responsibilities

• Utilize problem solving methods at “Gemba” (at the worksite) such as PDCA, DMAIC, FMEA, Design of Experiments (DOE), Vertical Value Streams (VVS) and Value Stream Maps (VSM) to drive continuous improvement and produce results
• Run cross-functional and new product development teams at Gemba to a specific objective using continuous improvement tools to organize and drive the objective of the team
• Work with the operators and leaders on the production floor to develop and implement poka-yokes to improve assigned process (one within first month)
• Effectively utilize and manage a student engineer to address reactive needs of the floor and to allow temporary countermeasures and long-term changes
• Utilize lean manufacturing principles in all processes and product changes
• Own and manage a process strategy
• Create, maintain and perform audits on standardized work documents i.e. Job Breakdown Sheets (JBS) and Critical Knowledge
• Yokoten: share and teach lessons learned with production floor


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

• Knowledge on machine shop practices, methods and procedures
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to speak in front of crowds
• Working toward a Six Sigma Black Belt
• Ability to effectively utilize DOE training

• Able to read, create and modify technical drawings and 3-D models

• Proficient with Microsoft Office
